Text Box: Text Box: About Us

Text Box: Miller Home has cared for more than 900 girls since opening its doors in 1875.  When established by Samuel Miller, the Miller Home was known as the Lynchburg Female Orphan Asylum.  At that time the home could care for 100 girls and it was located in a four story building on a working farm.  Today, Miller Home is still located in Lynchburg, however, serving a much smaller population.

Our home cares for girls age four through eighteen.  We may not be a traditional family, but we strive to provide the most traditional family environment possible while meeting the special individual needs of each resident.  During the admission process, we determine if our home and program can meet the needs of the applicant and if group home care is the best choice.  Once a child is accepted into our program we develop an Individual Service Plan (ISP).  The ISP identifies goals and objectives for each resident and any other involved party.  We can address various needs and behaviors through our program.

Our residents come to us for various reasons, from counties, towns, and cities all over Virginia as well as other states.  In some cases, it is the resident’s behavior that necessitates placement, while in other situations the parent or guardian is unable to care for her.  Whatever the reason, we consider each situation separately.  We are proud that we serve a diverse population through our program and believe that variety within our home is what makes our family special.

Miller Home is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and is a private non-profit group home.  We do not accept federal, state or local money and our choice to remain a private home allows us to serve children whose families are without the resources to pay for group home care.  We consider each situation separately and use a sliding scale to determine the amount of family support.

It is our pleasure to care for each resident.  We enjoy working with them, their families, and other related individuals in achieving the goal of placement.
